Cleaning the Cobwebs from my mind...
I had the best day.I know I am about to paint myself as a veritable lunatic, but my happy day was all about cleaning. Cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning. My fridge is suddenly empty after ridding it of all its spoils. I surprised my muscles by lugging and pushing beds over carpet to vacuum up long-lost popcorn seeds, cat hair, and foil wrappers from tiny Easter eggs. I did endless loads of

The Treehouse: Living Room Plans & Ideas
INSPIRATION: (Above Chaffee Braithwaite's living room AGAIN ;) I'm using it as inspiration... I'll be going with a bit more warmth & a little washed/ muted pattern. My goal is for the room to feel light airy, natural, raw, fresh with a classic modern feel and a hint of old-fashioned pretty. I want a fairly neutral backdrop for ever-changing accessories & shots of color. (In the image above, I
Change Is Good
I've been working on a little project for my office closet. Let me rephrase that...I've been getting incredibly frustrated with a project that I thought would be little, but is turning out to be a gigantic pain. At first I wasn't going to post about it, but then I figured that there is a lesson to be shared.Do you see these pretty red boxes I found at the thrift store? For some strange reason I
The Treehouse: Kitchen Decisions
First, I just want to thank everyone so much for your feedback & ideas!! I'm still undecided about the wallpaper as I got about the same amount of votes for "pineapples" and "sunflowers" from you all in comments or emails.I'm still waiting to receive the actual samples, so I'm hoping once I see them both, I'll know which one to choose. Also, I do design boards for all my rooms, I just don't have

Be My Guest
This may look like a continental breakfast for house guests but it was just a little Sunday morning treat for my family. I thought it would be nice to spoil them a bit and treat them like guests. Embracing a beautiful lifestyle doesn't have to cost a lot. All of the food was bought on sale. All of the serving dishes came from the thrift store.I enjoyed giving my family a little surprise that was

Tips Food Safety
There are times when you may face special risks while traveling abroad. Outbreaks that have made headlines in recent years include avian influenza, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), swine flu (flu babi), and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE or "mad cow disease"). The best way to stay up to date before your trip is to monitor the Web sites of the World Health Organization (WHO) or the

No Ordinary Boler...
If you are at all familiar with my blog, you know I am a big fan of camping. Each summer, I fuss over my little tent trailer/pop-up like it was a real vacation home. I have recovered the cushions, picked up fun accessories, doctored what I could and daydream about what else I can do to make it prettier. While the Airstream remains the coup of all campers, a close second would have to be the

Best Beauty Problems
Problems experienced by women not only domestic issues but also the beauty. The following answers may be a problem of beauty, I got this article from various sources.1. Why elbow and knee skin is dry and easily become dark? Frictions often make skin thicker (feels dry and rough), similar to going on the toes. Treated with exfoliation regularly and use lotion.2. Why finger-toe still feels rough,
Union Jack Cushions and More!
We have enjoyed making an individual range of Union Jack cushions over the past year - the one above was one of my favourites! Recently, we were commissioned to make several extra-large Union Jack cushions and whilst the sewing machine was up and running and our vast stash of vintage fabrics was strewn across the studio, we took the opportunity to make a few extra for the website. Labels
I've been adding a few finishing details to my office closet. One very important detail are the labels. I adore labels for organizing. With labels I never have to hear the words, "Moooooommmmm, where's the _____?!?" or "Honey, where do I put this?"Labels don't have to be office supply ordinary. It's always an enjoyable touch to turn the practical into the pretty. It gives you even more reason to

The View from the Couch...
Today, I am supposed to be in Halifax (our nearest city) spending quality time (shopping) with my two teenage boys. There is not a whole lot of mutually agreeable activities to do with boys of their age, as I am not very good at "Shaq-ing" basketballs, don't care for BMX biking, doing sweet jumps, and couldn't navigate a video game controller even if world peace depended on it. So, shopping for

A Basket Case
Have you seen these vintage baskets?Aren't they wonderful! They have a similar look and feelto the vintage grain sacksthat were the inspiration for my framed burlap. What's new?
Life is very busy at the moment, so projects around the house have taken a bit of a back seat. I do have lots of plans for the outside especially, including pouring our own concrete driveway (which is a bit intimidating), a revamp of my back deck area (repurposing our patio table, some paint, more atmosphere/accessories), landscaping Sophie's playhouse area and adding to our other flower beds,

April Showers...of a different sort!
As I sit beside a hot fire, actually getting too hot, I am warm for the first time today. So, to lift my spirits, I am going to indulge in some serious summertime daydreaming for a moment.Although we finished most of out outdoor projects last

While out on a walk yesterday I noticed a pile of freshly cut boxwood branches lying in the street waiting for the trash. I've always admired beautiful boxwood wreaths so naturally I saw that pile of trash as a treasure-in-waiting. The problem was, I don't know the people who live in the house with the freshly trimmed boxwoods. What was I supposed to do? Knock on their door and introduce myself

Finding Treasures
Saturday was such a crazy busy day! We spent the morning helping with a neighborhood clean-up. Then I had groceries to buy and last minute Easter goodies to purchase. It seems that this year every store sold out plastic eggs, which meant, because I am a procrastinator, I had to go to more stores than I had planned. I prepared items to bring to a big family dinner that evening. Once we returned,

Green Building Materials: How do you Choose?
There are certainly an abundance of green / energy efficient building materials on the market today. How do you determine which one is better than the other? No boring head board...
photo source: Coastal Living.comI have often thought that a headboard is the crowning glory to a well-made bed. Absolutely, great bedding is important, but even a bed layered all in white can look interesting if the bed itself is worthy of the spotlight. Naturally, a great antique or custom-made bed rich in character fits the bill, but can you frame your resting spot using less notable pieces?

Fancy Eggs
While I was on an egg roll (pardon the pun), I thought I'd take some ordinary paper mache eggs and make them fancy.
