The Marvelous Down Under...
As a proud Canadian, I like to share the talents of my fellow Canadians any chance I can. One of the best selling Canadian magazines is House and Home magazine, and I have recently discovered some of the great blogs over on their website, too. One of my favourites, is from Meg Crossley, Senior Editor with the magazine. Meg recently shared the renovation of her basement within the pages of House
Take a Bow Tuesday...
Heaven help me, it's Wednesday, but lucky for you, you're used to my fumbling of the schedule!Off we go!I just had to share this talented blogger with you: Liberty Biberty is a delightful blog for those of us who have a lingering love affair with doll houses. She made the most adorable shabby chic bedding for hers recently, and you must check it out. Consider yourself forewarned: you might be
Small But Sweet
Before I left my daughter to go back home to the real world, she requested that I decorate her apartment for fall.Occasionally someone will leave me a comment, after I've shared holiday photos of my home, saying things like, "I wish I could decorate for the holidays but my home is too small." Or, "I can't afford to decorate." Or "I have no place to store decorations." Hopefully these photos will

The Sacred Ring
The tradition of proposal with the diamond ring has been established since 1477, precisely when Archduke Maximilian from Austria, an emperor of Central European, gave a present of a diamond ring when he engaged with Mary, an ordinary woman from Burgundy. Since then, the romantic action of the diamond was known as the symbol of the love and the commitment. However, the tradition put on the ring on
Homeward Bound...
(decorations from past holidays)A bout with some strange virus had me awol for a spell, as you may or may not have noticed. It has left me feeling drained of energy at a time when I could really use a little extra. It is crunch time, with regards to magazine deadlines and such, and little miss Sophie is quite perturbed that nary a fall decoration is up and bidding welcome to the new season. As I
New York, New York
My daughter treated me to a bus ride up to New York city for a weekend visit. We stayed with a really cute and gracious couple who live there, which was nice because they knew the area and could help us find great ways to spend our time. We spent much of Saturday shopping flea markets. We had so much fun! It was part of a perfect day in the big city.We went to one market that's housed in an old

REFLECTIONS ...............
I think that, being a blogger, we should all be allowed a little bit of poetic licence and, as this post is all about mirrors, this first picture doesn't really fit in, but it IS the most brilliant photograph and I wanted to use it .................BUT, water reflects, doesn't it , so I'm letting it in !!!! I think that I must have at least one mirror in every room in my house, and it's not all

Yet another Fernando Torres Wallpaper
Adorn your desktop with this terrific Torres backdrop... "This year we had some agents acting for other English clubs who were coming to us asking about the price of Torres, with big, big figures, but we said that he's not for sale. I would say at this moment in time he is not for sale at any price. People say every player has a price but we don't want to sell the player, so he does not have a

Tips Tropical winter
Don’t want to be out-of-date by the trend of the autumn, but the tropical temperature do not enable thick clothes? Here’s the trick:1. Parka clearly is not possible to be used. Choose jacket plus turtle neck underwear.2. Boots are too excessive for the tropical climate. Change it with open toe ankle boots3. Scarf and stocking are the typical style of the winter. Wear as the touch of appearance

Halloween from Pottery Barn Kids
We get REALLY into Halloween. I mean disgustingly into it. We have a party every year and there's always a theme. (We usually start at our house with a bunch of friends & play games & then get a limo into Georgetown... but really? A bar 6 months pregnant? Just not happening.) So this year I think we might stick to a smaller, family & kid-friendly party... (We might have to do both parties next
A Grown-up Room
Remember when I told you that I was helping one of my daughter's friends do a master bedroom makeover? I teased you with this photo of items that she purchased at the thrift store. Along with the items in the shopping cart, she also bought a headboard and dresser. Then she purchased another inexpensive dresser off of Craigs List. This is what the master bedroom in their basement apartment looked

Shades of Autumn and Cosy Quilts for Chilly Nights...
Autumn is well and truly upon us - and what a beautiful Autumn it is so far! The early misty mornings make way for sun-filled days here in the UK, and it is a pleasure to to see the changing of the seasons. The fabric above is one of my favourites, a vintage Sanderson linen and very appropriate for the time of year, with its rich shades of Autumnal colours. The nights have a definite chill to

Simple Pleasures: Fire Pits & S'Mores
It's Fall & we finally have a backyard to hang out in!! A couple of nights ago we decided to break out the firepit (given to us by our friends, Amy & Greg) and do S'Mores. It was so beautiful to just sit out in the brisk night with sweats on & to warm our bare feet near the fire...It was just Dave & Christian (& of course Ashby!) and me, but we had enough s'mores for 6+ people. And of course

A Delightful Statement
On my last trip to visit my daughter I helped her move in anddecorate their new apartment. She is so happy with it, but as we sat at the kitchen table we decided that there was something lacking. The sofa in the living room is such a beautiful statement piece that when you walk into the kitchen it's almost disappointing. The light fixture was so old, ugly, and boring. I took on the challenge of
All Fall Down...
It's here and I'm ready.Ready for hearty stews, pumpkin patches, warm sweaters, lighting my fireplace, doing a craft or two with my girlie (seasonal, of course), the odd piece of flannel nightwear, and fall T.V.Exciting life I lead, isn't it?What I'm not so keen on is closing up my pool (a dreaded task), seeing the frost claim my flowers, finding room in my just-tidied garage for all the outdoor

Our 70s Split Redo Part I: The Living Room & Dining Room
So, we finally (mostly) finished our house! And I wanted to share some (ok, a lot) of pictures with you! Here's a recap for people who haven't been reading as long.... When we bought this house, some people thought we were crazy. If you've been reading along since the house-hunting posts (back in Feb-March) then you know that we looked at & saw potential in some frightening places- an 800 square
Left Behind at the Bonanza...
As I wandered around the Bonanza and drank in all of the amazing booths and displays, I was, in a word, overwhelmed. My first thought when I walked into the venue was (obviously) WOW! I don't know if anyone can appreciate the fact that events of that magnitude just don't happen in my neck of the woods, and the new experiences I had meant so very much to me. The next feelings that flooded me were

Our Weekend With Eddie & Jaithan
We all know how good of an incentive having guests can be for getting house projects done... Well, Eddie & Jaithan coming to visit was the incentive of incentives!!! Dave & I basically agreed that this would be our deadline to "finish" the house. (We have so many more projects to do & we all know you're never really "done" but we did get to most major things.) I can't tell you how good it feels
A Dining Jewel
My daughter's friend recently moved into a new apartment. It's the first floor of an old home that retains many of it's old fashioned charms like hardwood floors and this small built-in china cabinet in the corner of the dining room. Doesn't it look sweet, filled with an heirloom china tea set that belonged to her husband's grandparents? However, that's all the storage area this room offers. And

Show and tell...at the Bonanza.
I had the best time at Ki Nassauer's Junk Bonanza in Minneapolis! I shopped, ate, met other bloggers and readers. I shopped till I dropped and cursed the fact that I was flying with only one suitcase; and I kept my eyes and ears open to absorb as much knowledge as I could and commit all the treasures to memory. Of course the other thing that was "open" was my jaw as I dragged it around the event

This Model is Costing Me Money
Must give a pregnancy rant for a moment. I'm about 6 months along and, though the occasion is rare, sometimes I want to look stylish. (sadly, i'm a sweats wearer on most weekdays when I'm at the house) BUT when I'm going out, I figure I should make a good attempt. Anyway, everything I see this Maternal America model in, I just LOVE!!I ordered the dress above and thought it would be perfect

Look Alike, and Like to Look Back...
When my mum visited a few weeks ago, I took her to our favourite anique shop. We always approach the shop a bit differently. She examines the furniture (which I quickly admire but know I cannot afford) and I spend altogether too much time exploring what I call "the smalls". We bond, however, as we browze through the old photos and postcards, exclaiming at a sweet sentiment or a peculiar or funny
Blooming With Ideas
One of the first places I visited in Washington DC was the Botanic Garden, one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America. I love to garden so I found it to be incredibly inspiring. The different gardens were absolutely stunning! I started snapping photos of ideas I wanted to incorporate in my own gardens as well as ideas that I could only dream of having. Sixty plus photos later I found
The Struggle: Minimal or "curiosity shop"
So, I always have this struggle within me when doing my own home: Do I want minimal or do I want that "curiosity shop" feeling?? I'm hoping writing this post & checking out some pics will help me get to a decision. The minimal I'm talking about isn't necessarily modern, but an open, airy look. And the "collected"/ Alice & Wonderland look I'm thinking of is more like this fun, quirky space(Domino

Arranging Accessories & Books on Shelves: Before & After
Like most people, we have a TON of books. Since we moved into our new house last May, they've been in boxes in our downstairs hallway... NOT PRETTY. or organized. or easy. So, yesterday, we headed over to Ikea and purchased this bad boy for our living room: To go in this spot: We'll still need some more bookshelves somewhere else in the house but I'm really happy with this start: I mixed in lots

Sorting out so many entries (and double entries) was quite a job, but I managed to pull it off with the help of the trusty random number generator!Matthew obviously has a lot of fans who are very excited about his new Halloween magazine, and rightly so! Because he is a fair and generous sort, Matthew is giving away a copy of his magazine to five lucky winners. And they

Dinner Is Sacked
I've left the men in my house so that I can spend some quality time with my daughter. I'm so excited to have some girl time! But I do fear that the boys at home will eat nothing but sandwiches and ramen noodles while I'm away. So I prepared a basket of sack dinners. Each sack contains a few basic items and I've written directions on the front. The meals are far from gourmet, more like a step

I Love DT
Aahhh! It's the day after hosting the ladies evening out for our church. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. They all went home with favor boxes from the dollar store containing mints and snickers with a note inside that said, life is "mint" to be happy. And a quote that said (among other things), "How we see life's glass---half-full or half-empty---is primarily a choice." The evening was
All things Fall lead to Halloween...and a give-away!!
This morning as I headed out to the car to drive my son to school, I had to blast the heat for a minute to clear the windshield. That, coupled with the fact that I needed a sweatshirt, was a stark reminder that fall is inching in and scoffing at the date on the calendar. My favourite TV shows are returning - with a double header of America's Next Top Model last night - and I will have to remember

So this past weekend was crazy (good crazy) for us: client install (Fri night/ Sat AM), Pear Tree Cottage Design Seminar (Sun) and last but not least hardwood floor install at our place!!! It started out with a day/ night of demo on Saturday: (NOT fun)Here it is down to the plywood: The next day we (Ok, DAVE) finished the demo and layed down the sound barrier- the red stuff all over the floor. Can of Worms!! :)
I'm not usually big on writing on controversial posts, but an a post I did earlier today did spur on some thoughts... This morning I did a post on a client of mine who had a very different design aesthetic from my own. (I since removed the post so it isn't as personal, but I can email it to anyone who is interested.) To quickly sum up the "missing post," when I first took the job, the client told

Another Glen Johnson Liverpool FC Wallpaper
Grab it for free!"Glen is a quality player in a quality team and I think he has added something to us. What we try to do in each and every area and department is recruit quality and we feel we have done with Glen. He has come here and has been willing to listen and learn. For someone who is already an established England international that's great and long may it continue." - Sammy Lee.
Flower Power
Did you expect to see a fully finished bathroom project? Yeah, so did I. Isn't it funny how life can get in the way of your plans? Well, one day I hope to finish the downstairs bathroom. I know it won't happen for a while. But that's okay. In the meantime, I still have things to share. This week I'm in charge of a pot luck salad and dessert supper for the women of my church. I want the evening to
How To Arrange Your Accessories @ Pear Tree Cottage!
I had such a great time doing the Pear Tree Cottage Design Seminar this weekend! Above is me with an arrangement I did for one of the demonstrations using sedum & some unknown bush cutting from my yard in a vintage milk glass urn. Here are the lovely ladies of Pear Tree Cottage:It started off perfectly with some champagne and boy did I wish I could have a glass! (I was definitely a bit nervous

Appealing to my Senses
Who doesn't love a long weekend? I know I certainly do. For me, Labour Day weekend is a time to take a quick breather after the return to school and the return to order and routine. This past weekend, I was lucky enough to have my parents make the three and a half hour trek to come visit us. After only a quick visit with them at my brother's wedding, it was so nice to get some parental loving.

My Chinoiserie Mirror & Entry
I found this crazy vintage chipped Chinoiserie Mirror at Lucketts yesterday & just went for it. My entryway is dull and uninviting to use the nicest of terms. It's really bad. (below) yummy linoleum (before.)And you can see it from the Living room and the main wall is actually a focal point of sorts when in the living room (which is where the pic above is taken from. ) I'm putting it high on the
CHAIR AFFAIR ....a love story....
She was a bit of a lazy cushion really.....with a lack of desire to expend any effort....to relax in a comfy chair with a book, quilt over her bias binding and a tasty sweetmeat to pick at, was the order of the day.....He was of a similar persuasion...soft buttery leather, made for comfort, a book and a beer at his side was his favourite pastime. She was a little over 36 and longed for a partner.

Back to Basics...
Well, it's official: the kids are back to school as of yesterday, and I need to get my act together and make some sense of the disorder running rapmant in the corners, cupbooards, cabinets, and closets of my home! I find myself dreading opening my fridge...knowing it has a summers worth of crud waiting for me to attack (along with some outdated food items!). I need to go through the kids' (and
Burlap My Window
With this bamboo blind as my inspiration, I decided to Burlap My Window.First, I cut a strip of MDF and a length of PVC to fit perfectly inside the width of the window.I measured around the PVC pipe and added an extra inch or two. Then I measured the height of the inside of the window, added the two measurements together to get the overall length I needed to cut the burlap. For the width, I chose

The Classic Pedestal Table
According to amishtables.com , "The pedestal table was originally designed for smaller rooms and to give an air of status. They were popular because of their functionality and almost all homes had one in some form. Just like today, they could be put to use in an elegant dining room or as a gaming table for friends and family to gather around." (table above by Identity Craft and image below from

The Cover Up
Did you see the windowin my downstairs bathroom?Yes. I know. It's hideously ugly. One reason---it's the cheap aluminum clad, original to the house. The second---it's a ground-level window that gets hit continually with sprinkler water. For the past several years I've used shutters to cover it. They were a pretty solution to an ugly problem. But because we have neighbor children who find it

The Lucite Trend
Well, I can't say that I'm up on the trends. At all. Because sometimes when I go to write a blogpost about a trend or something I think is really great, and I'm googling images, I come accross a post on the very subject I was planning on writing about... and quite often it's over a year old. That makes me feel behind. So, I know there are probably a million posts out there about lucite coffee
Take a Bow Tuesday...

Hopefully, October will be my month to get crafty and make something. In the meantime, I will take notes and add inspiration from all of you to my to-do file.Inspiration like this:That Mrs. Limestone
