Soup Stop
Cool, crisp weather and a generous bowl of hearty soup. They just go together - and very well, I might add. Now... hot, humid summer days and a bowl of steamy, hot soup - hmmm...not so much! However, tell that to the good folks at The Soup Stop. Where and what is The Soup Stop, you might ask? Well, it is no more, and with good reason. When we lived in a small village in the heart of Cape Breton

A Great "Fall" House
One of my favorite things to do every season is to reaccessorize & make my house feel warm & cozy or light & airy or however that season feels to me.Here's a great house from Country Living that is perfect for Fall & I just wanted to share:I LOVE the wall color in the kitchen. Not too warm, not too cool. (In the magazine it's a hint more olivey. Oh why didn't they list the color?!) Gorgeous. And

The Profiler...
(Skippy...the one who started it all!)Silhouettes...I seem to be seeing them everywhere lately. I guess that's what happens when something is so good. It gets noticed.I have had a love affair with silhouettes for years, but have had extreme difficulty finding any authentic (read, old) ones, except for my beloved Skippy. I remember a few Christmases back, I saw in a holiday magazine (I think it

AMAZING BED TIP - this will change your life!
Above is the Westin Heavenly Bed & for me it's been the model of a perfect bed since I first ran & jumped into one in a Westin hotel room. (It looks THAT inviting: All white, fluffy but tailored, tons of pillows, just barely pulled down so you want to get right in... You pretty much have to jump right into the bed when you walk in the room the first time.) All-white bedding has become almost a

Need a Lift
Does your display look a little blah and boring? Maybe all it needs is a little lift. Giving items height in a display is a designer's trick. Allow me to demonstrate. This display of pumpkins looks good. It's looking better. Now it looks it's best. You can use items you already haveto give height to your display.I like to use candle holders.I love to use vases and urns. How about using a pretty box.(

May the bubble never burst...
May the bubble never burst...every time I utter those words, I laugh aloud. The first time I heard the phrase was on a shopping trip with a good friend. It had been a particularly good day, with many great "deals", and we were marvelling at our luck. Then, my friend happily sang out those words. Apparently, it is a "warning" phrase her mother extols whenever she feels her daughter might be
The nursery
Here are some pictures of my son's nursery. We wanted to give it a nautical feel without it being over-the-top "baby" or themey so the room could easily grow with him. (Okay, okay... In all honesty, since I realize that nurseries are truly for the parents & not the kids, I used it as an outlet to satisfy the nautical kick I was on. ;) We can do that to our kids, right?)We painted tone-on-tone

Entertaining Simple Give-away
When something is really good, it bears repeating: for example, my most recent give-away featuring Matthew Mead's Halloween magazine, and the ten free copies he so graciously gave away. The response was so great, however, that there were more than a few of you left smoothing your feathers in disappointment for not having won a copy. "Not fair", you might have thought. Indeed!!So, in the spirit

Everybody's Doing It
As I've made my visits around blogland, I've noticed that making your own chalkboard is quite a popular project. Not wanting to be left behind, I purchased a large piece of framed art. I cleaned it well and then covered the "painting" with newspaper. I painted the frame a pretty apple green. I've been wanting to use this color on a project since seeing it at the paint party. It really is a
Gaga for Aga
photo sources: Aga Uk.com Say what? For those who know not of this wondrous brand of stoves, please let me bring you up to speed. An Aga is so much more than a stove. In use since 1922, it is a wondrous source of gentle heat to warm you, a vessel in which to prepare delicious meals for your family, and, perhaps most important of all, an object of beauty (and yes, I can be that shallow). The folks

A Woman's Prerogative
Do you remember a while back, when I tried usingother paint colors besides satin black?Do you remember this homeless tin shelfthat started out a deep red?And then became a lovely tan?Well, I changed my mind. It's a woman's prerogative isn't it?I finally decided where I wanted the shelf,so I had to do a second makeover. This is what it looks like now.I painted the fleur de lis details to show them
Preserving Memories and Traditions.
looking at my scrapbooks with family...I am sentimental. I am also a chronicler. My mum would say I chronicle because I am sentimental, but that is only part of the reason. I would say that I photograph, journal, videotape, scrapbook, and even blog because I have a poor memory. Yes, my memory is poor, yet I love memories. So, I take record of the parts of my life that are important to me. It is

The Price Drop In Miami
Sales prices have come down substantially in Miami Beach, yet some sellers are still asking very high prices for their properties, prices that are high enough to render those properties un-saleable sans a significant price reduction. If there is any doubt, read on and arrive at your own conclusion.A property on North Bay Road in Miami Beach sold 2 days ago for much lower than the asking price. As
Neglected No More
Several months ago, I found a pretty little desk at the thrift store. I didn't really need a desk, but the price was right, so the desk came home with me. I stuck it in an empty corner of the family room. It needed to be painted. It was chipped and dinged and a young artist had carved a pie chart into it. At the time I was going through my "paint everything satin black" phase. But I wasn't sure
